I've been thinking about how much I want to try counselling. We learnt about it in class recently,, and it's been really cool learning about other people's misconceptions about it as well~ My classmates are so good at articulating their thoughts, I wish I was like them haha.
I think if I had the resources to get counselling I definitely would! Especially right now, all my friends and stuff have been experiencing super hard-hitting emotions that are super hard to deal with, especially if your family isn't open to that stuff, like mine (っ- ‸ - ς)
Counselling is not only a great way to vent, but also a great way to address underlying mental issues and learning disabilities, that could easily be accommodated for that can help young people in the long run, and it could also help develop healthy coping strategies that could replace their pre-existing unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Teens are also seen as moody and rude sometimes, but I think it's just them being misunderstood. Growing humans are supposed to have big unintelligible emotions that adults can't comprehend due to the age gap, and this is mostly brushed off as just teenagers being disrespectful and demanding corporal punishment cause of it, but I think teenagers just need a healthy outlet to let out all of their negative emotions, and counselling could really help with that, especially in the long run.
I also think this improves their relationships with others— It gives themself the freedom to to think over their emotions without harming or seeing themselves as a burden to their family and friends, and even when they do want to talk to them, they’ll probably have a much easier time articulating the words they want to say in the first place!
But, I mean, you dont really have to go outside of school to get counselling, there are options for guidance counselling in schools as well! even though online distance learning means, the counsellors can set up a meeting with students through voice calls.
Overall, counselling is really great and is super accessible, probably more than compared to psychiatrists, and is a good stepping stone towards help.
